ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The RIT baseball team travels to Ithaca for the Liberty League Championship Tournament (double elimination), beginning on Thursday, May 12, at Freeman Field.

The first RIT game is Thursday, May 12, against Rochester at 11 a.m. The second RIT game is against Clarkson on Friday at 10 a.m. Saturday games are scheduled based on Friday’s results.The Liberty League Tournament runs from Thursday, May 12, through Saturday, May 14 with Sunday, May 15 as a rainout date. ALL WEST FINAL FOUR

The four teams from the Liberty League West Division defeated the four teams from the Liberty League East Division in last weekend’s best-of-three Cross Over Series. West top-seed Ithaca went 2-1 over East fourth-seed Union in the only series to go three games. West second-seed Rochester swept East third-seed RPI, and West fourth-seed Clarkson swept East first-seed Skidmore.

LAST TIME OUT

The RIT baseball team opened Liberty League postseason play with a sweep at Bard in last weekend’s Cross Over Series, taking the first game, 5-3, and then sweeping the Raptors with a 6-2 victory in the second game on May 7. In game one, RIT scored four runs in the third inning and then added one run in the fourth. Bard’s rally fell short with three runs in the eighth. In game two’s 6-2 victory, RIT and Bard traded runs in the second inning, but the Tigers had a three-run inning in the third and added another run in the fourth for a 5-1 lead. Both teams traded runs in the sixth to complete the game’s scoring. The Tigers never trailed at any point during the two games.

AWAY FROM TIGER STADIUM

Entering the Tournament, RIT is 14-5 in games away from Tiger Stadium this season. Those numbers include two wins in February and 10 in March along with last weekend’s series at Bard. Since April, the Tigers have played four road games.

TIGER LEADERS

Entering the Tournament, RIT is 10th in conference batting with three hitters at .300 or above. Freshman designated hitter Adam Marsh leads the team with a .353 batting average, followed by graduate student outfielder Nic Stagnitta (.321) and senior first baseman Ian Libby (.314). The Tigers are third in conference pitching based on a 5.55 ERA. Junior pitcher Peter Bossinas has a team-best 2.74 ERA with a pair of saves, and senior Jon Opalewski has highs in wins (five) and starts (10). RIT is first in the conference in fielding with a .970 percentage and are led by senior centerfielder Will Porter’s 40 catches and perfect fielding percentage.

RIT VS. LIBERTY LEAGUE TOURNAMENT OPPONENTS THIS SEASON

RIT is a combined 2-6 against tournament opponents Ithaca, Rochester and Clarkson this season. The Tigers went 1-2 against their opening tournament opponent Rochester during a three-game series April 30 through May 1. All three were played in Rochester with the first two at Tiger Stadium and the last one on the road. RIT took the first game, 9-4, before falling in the next two, 4-2 and 12-3. The Tigers went 1-1 against Clarkson on April 2 in Rochester after falling in the first game, 8-4, and winning the second, 3-2. RIT fell to Ithaca three times at home from April 15-16 by scores of 16-10, 12-4 and 3-2.
